Greetings to all the friends of Wayward Coffeehouse! We apologize for the lack of recent updates but have been hoping to be able to report more progress. We aim to keep flyin!

We have been focusing our efforts on finding a new location because of the refusal of the property owners to repair the building. But finding a location that will allow us to continue to provide all the unique offerings of Wayward Coffeehouse is not easy! The process is not going as quickly as we would like. As nothing is yet settled we can not reveal where we hope to be, but know that we are working hard to find a place to reopen.

As many of you have learned since the fire, there are significant legal matters which have been hampering our ability to reopen. Issues with the building which pre-date the fire were already the subject of litigation. We are aware that contrary to what we were told work has occurred at the property, however, we must pursue that issue through legal avenues. Although we have prevailed on important aspects, the legal system moves slowly and is a significant drain on our limited resources. It may be several more months before we can hope to see resolution or even additional progress with our struggle for justice on matters both pre- and post-fire.

But we believe in what we created with Wayward Coffeehouse and want fervently for it to continue. We have received your messages of support and encouragement and know that there is a need for Wayward Coffeehouse for the communities we embrace.

We have been humbled by the many donations to the “Wayward Phoenix Fund” and are immensely grateful for the support. The funds have helped us all to survive and has helped with the mounting legal fees we face as we seek justice. Wayward Phoenix Fund Donations ( and look for the Wayward logo to donate online or for information on donating by check.

All of us from Wayward Coffeehouse miss you greatly and we continue to work toward our reopening. It will take longer than any of us would like, but we are committed to rising from the ashes and once again being the coffee haven for all of you.

We aim to keep flyin’ ...

Wayward Coffeehouse, it's better than a plan

Came in late, because our street was a sheet of ice, and we don't have sidewalks. We also don't have neighbors who drive well. So I decided to go back to bed and sleep in a bit.

Wearing my incredibly stylish leg warmers that I knitted for myself. I love them. They are sooooo warm. I am pleased.

Got my blood test results yesterday. Read them off to the Boy when I opened the letter:

"Low. Normal. Normal. Normal. Normal. Low. Normal. Low. Normal. Low. Normal."
Boy: "I hate you and I'm spitefully eating this cookie at you, so you can't have it."

If you're not from here, I don't think you appreciate the sheer panic that comes on the heels of a forecast of snow.

However, it does mean I have permission to leave at the first sign of a flake today.

I don't think I'll take advantage, because that means standing in the snow waiting for a bus, then walking home through the snow from the bus.

Not a fan.

We'll see how it looks as the day goes on. I was kind of hoping it would strike in the night so I could stay home and sleep. Alas, it was not to be. Although it is bloody cold out there.

New podcast is up at GGR. If you enjoy my dulcet tones, check it out.

Also, if you would like bread, email the Boy: ogremarco at hotmail dot com

"So, today while at work, I had the MSNBC shows streaming in the background, like I usually do. And I got to hear Rep. Chris Smith (R) from New Jersey’s speech regarding abortion.

"It was the most sickening pack of lies I think I’ve ever sat through, or at least since Bush declared there were WMDs in Iraq.

"No, I take that back. While sickening, the WMD lie did not piss me off as thoroughly as Rep. Smith, and his happy horseshit about how stupid women are about abortion."

So hard to get up today.

Went to Doctor yesterday. Blood pressure is fine. He gave me a splint. Took my blood on the way out, but no calls to tell me I'm dying of the dethfatz in any way, shape or form. So, I presume those numbers are good too.

I switched doctors, and it was so relieving to hear him say, when *I* brought up my weight, "You know, it's mostly genetics."

It is amazing how much tension drains out of you when you don't have to worry about being labelled noncompliant for your inability to lose weight.

If you all want to keep getting baked goods from Ogre, you will want to place orders soon so we can plan out the week. But mostly we are really, really gratified at the amount of interest. If we can sustain this, we'll see about becoming a for real business in the next year or so.

Bork came and picked up her buns and we had a good visit.

Spitphyre came and picked up her order as well.

Let me know if I need to repost the list. Also, what is he currently not making that you'd like to see. I think I'm gonna poke him about brioche.

For example, how many people would be interested in mozzarella or refrigerator pickles?

"This is the thing that drives me nuts about having these discussions on the internet. You post about Feminism, rape, abortion, or any issue relevant to women. The post generates HUGE comment threads, frequently populated by men telling you how you’re wrong and have no idea what life is like for women (even though you are one), but they do because they have a friend/sister/girlfriend. That you’re over-reacting, if all you little gals would just calm down and talk sweet-like maybe they’d throw you a bone (some of them mean this in all it’s innuendo-ish glory, some are blind to the pun)."

Chance (NOT DJ Chance) was my friend Katt's brother, and someone I'd known through conventions and the SCA since I was 19. He was a crazy, redhead who wore a wrapped kilt and sash, and no shirt, mostly. He could find something beautiful about every woman, and had a way of making you feeling like the most desirable woman in the room, all without (as far as I know) ever stepping out on his wife.

I rarely saw him outside of cons or the SCA, but his cheerful presence was a constant in those venues, and I am very, very sad that he is gone. He will be missed.

I've unfriended people, but I've never taken the extra step of bannination before.

I don't like to. I have a tendency to hang on to people because we moved so much, and I want lifelong friends, but they just don't exist.

But today, I had to admit that someone's right-wing tinfoil-hattery was just too much to tolerate.

Here's a newsflash, if you're a Birther, just unfriend me now.

Well, the grand baking experiment is proceeding apace. He's been a baking machine, including one "emergency" order from the Pinata for noon.

One of my co-workers used the challah to make french toast last night, and she says her kids LOVED IT! Another co-worker is deliriously happy with his rye bread.

We've got a couple orders of stuff due this weekend. I have Dark Sun saturday, but beyond that I can hopefully spend the rest of the weekend writing.

Slept hard and good last night.

Still coughing. Dr. Appt monday.

I haz coffee.
sirriamnis: Do Not Want (Sloth)
Yeah, coughing fits until you see stars and are gagging?

Not fun.

I'm ready for this shit to be over any time now.

Watched the last episode of the Unusuals, and am very, very sad there won't be any more.

Dresden game tonight.

The Man has taken up the Grrsl's spot next to my head/chest, and she would like you to know she is not pleased. Need to get back to writing, now that I can operate without the influence of cold meds, mostly.

Up, here.

Still coughing. Left eye is irritated, and a little watery, but not gross and pussy. I think I just really irritated it.

Annual review at 10. Let's hope I still have a job after.

I got hold of the kitten twice this morning and kissed her all over her grubby little head.

State of the Geek Girl What Rules! and some media reviews!

One of the speakers for the meeting I've been helping the Pinata prepare for can't get into the US.

We have to do another letter of invitation. And hope. At least we've got two back up speakers just in case.

Not sure if blogging on NyQuil is a good idea or not.

The Boy and I are going to be selling off much of our, not inconsiderable, gaming collection, primarily a bunch of unpainted Warmachine figs. And Loree wisely pointed out that lots of our friends like gaming stuff, and that if we sell it to you guys we don't have to ship or pay Ebay fees.

Who is interested in what as far as Warmachine?

We may be getting rid of some Warhammer minis, too.

Let me know who is interested in what.
sirriamnis: Sulky (Batman)
Sometimes when some well-meaning, but clueless, soul says, "God never gives you more than you can handle," I just want to yell at them.

A lot.

Because apparently MY God is a sadistic mother fucker who's trying to figure out the maximum carrying capacity of the modern mind.

I'll be ok. I have sat down and thought out a line of attack and contingency plans for many possibilities over the next six months. Mostly what this means is, if fun costs money, we will not be having it.

I am cutting our budget to the bone so that we can hopefully be ready if the worst happens. Honestly, planning for the worst makes me feel better, trust me.

This also means a lot of preventive health care. Such as, I will be dragging my sorry ass in about this stupid thumb, and I will be bullying my healthcare provider into doing the boob squishing regardless of how dense my breast mass currently is.
